Travis Konecny's name is back in the rumor mill, and this time it's about a no-movement clause the Flyers may never get him to waive.

Tonight, Philadelphia dropped a 5-2 decision in Washington. One night earlier, the Flyers lost 4-3 in overtime at home to Columbus.

Konecny watched both from the sidelines. He's listed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury and is expected out until at least Nov 3, which is only an estimate.

He got into five games before going down. No goals, three assists, and a -4 rating that tells you how rough the start was.

NHL Rumour Report passed along Daily Faceoff's word that team sources believe Konecny would not be open to waiving his NMC.

The original Daily Faceoff report, from Anthony Di Marco on Tuesday, says Konecny could be approached about it. That's a possibility, not a plan.

Nothing in the post says general manager Daniel Briere has picked up the phone. But the idea is floating, and that alone is enough to stir a fan base already stewing.

Selling low on an $8.75 million winger would sting

The money is the first obstacle. Konecny carries a cap hit of $8,750,000 that runs through 2032-2033, and he's a UFA at expiry.

He's also 29, hurt, and coming off a -4 start. If Philadelphia wanted to move him, it would be shopping a player at his lowest value. That's like listing a house mid-renovation, with the drywall still open.

Here's the editorial take: it's a bad idea. A homegrown first-rounder, taken 24th overall in 2015, doesn't get shopped while he's on IR.

The résumé is real. Over his NHL career, Konecny has 225 goals and 547 points in 728 games, plus 13 points in 32 playoff games.

Tuesday's loss showed where the scoring is coming from without him. Trevor Zegras had a goal and an assist, and Jamie Drysdale scored while playing 26:48 on the back end.

Rick Tocchet's group returns Sunday, Nov 1, against Utah. Konecny won't be back by then.

So the question lingers. If the team really does want a different look up front, does it wait for a healthy Konecny, or does the pressure build while he sits?
