The Flyers lost 3-2 at the Rangers on Thursday night, and Simon Benoit's first goal as a Flyer wasn't enough to carry the night.
It was the opening game of a five-game road trip for Rick Tocchet's team. Before tonight, Philadelphia was 4-9-4 and 30th in the NHL, with a 1-5-1 road record. Those numbers are from before the game.
Mollie Walker summed up the final from the Rangers' side, pointing to Pavel Dorofeyev's first big goal as a Ranger, Tye Kartye finishing it off and New York's 8-2 record at MSG.
The Rangers scored first, with J.T. Miller getting a stick on a Marcus Pettersson shot that may have gone in off Kartye. Joseph Woll's start in net was confirmed by the team earlier today.
Benoit answered from the blue line at 10:10 of the second period, and the Flyers made sure to mark it.
It was only his seventh NHL goal in 364 career games, and it tied the game 1-1.
Noel Acciari then put Philadelphia on top with 7:51 left in the second, finishing a turnaround pass from Denver Barkey. Jamie Drysdale also picked up an assist.
That was the high point. The Rangers scored twice after it, and Walker called it a big third period for the Blueshirts.
Going into the third with a lead and leaving with nothing is exactly what a team 30th in the league can't afford. Philadelphia owns a -21 goal differential from before tonight, and it spent a one-goal cushion without much of a fight.
Four more road games for a team that needed this one
The Flyers had a real chance to change the story of their road record heading into New York. Instead the trip starts with another loss.
The next stop is Calgary on Sunday, Nov. 8. The Flames lost 2-1 in overtime at Seattle on Wednesday, so they will be looking for a response too.
